Analysis methodology
How ChatMood turns Twitch chat into insights
ChatMood combines captured live-chat activity with AI-generated interpretations. Read the time window, sample, and conversation context before using an insight to make a decision.
By ChatMood · Updated · Our methodology
1. Collection starts with an active live session
ChatMood receives available chat messages while an analysis session is active for a live Twitch channel. The captured session can be shorter than the broadcast. Connection interruptions, quiet periods, and the time collection started can affect coverage.
The tool does not infer what silent viewers think or reconstruct messages from an arbitrary past VOD. A count of captured messages is not a count of unique viewers, and chat activity does not measure reach.
2. AI analyzes batches and may use a sample
Insights are generated periodically from recent messages. On high-volume input, the model may receive a representative sample rather than every captured message. The analysis prompt can include the total received count so the model can estimate frequencies.
Topic counts and repeated-message frequencies produced by AI should be read as estimates, not audited totals. The prompt asks the model to identify bot messages and exclude them from sentiment and topic interpretation, but this filtering can be imperfect.
3. Sentiment describes expressed tone
Positive, neutral, and negative categories estimate the tone expressed in the analyzed conversation. They do not measure customer satisfaction, purchasing intent, toxicity, or the private beliefs of every viewer.
Sarcasm, emotes, slang, multilingual conversation, and community context can affect interpretation. Compare sentiment with topics, questions, representative messages, and the stream event. ChatMood does not publish a universal accuracy score because performance varies with context.
4. Timing and plan limits affect what you see
The configured AI analysis interval is five minutes on Free, one minute on Starter, and thirty seconds on Business. These are analysis intervals, not a promise that every result or alert arrives at exactly that time. Processing, connectivity, and usage limits can affect availability.
Chat message retention is seven days on Free, thirty days on Starter, and ninety days on Business. This describes the configured retention window for captured chat messages; it is not a promise that all account data or recap pages is deleted on that schedule. Paid-plan Chat Explorer searches the retained messages available to the session.
5. Summaries and reports need context
Stream recaps summarize the captured session using topics, sentiment, notable messages, and audience questions. They can help someone review a conversation, but they are not video transcripts and cannot establish events that were not supported by the collected data.
Before using a recap or export in a report, check the observation window and examples. Shared recap pages are public. Avoid conclusions about causation, unique reach, sponsorship return, or automated moderation decisions that the underlying chat data cannot support.
Frequently asked questions
Does ChatMood analyze every message individually?
Not necessarily. High-volume analysis may use a sample of captured messages. AI-derived frequencies and sentiment should be interpreted as estimates.
Why can sentiment change between analysis windows?
The messages, sample, topics, and participants can change. AI interpretation can also vary. Compare similar windows and inspect context before treating a change as meaningful.
Where can I report an incorrect explanation?
